It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of a great man and respected KDP member, Dr. William B. Martin. Bill had a deep love for education and for Kappa Delta Pi. Dr. Martin was a life member of KDP and served as Counselor of the Eta Chi Chapter at East Carolina University for more than 25 years. He served on numerous KDP committees during his 44 years as a dedicated member.
Bill attended 17 KDP Biennial Convocations—including his last in 2013, where he was awarded the Dr. Thomas E. Musselman Award for Service Excellence and he was inducted as a charter member into the Eleanor Roosevelt Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi. These awards recognize members who have inspired others through their volunteer efforts with education-focused service programs and who have made a difference in their local, regional and global communities. Bill lived a life of service, beginning with his military service in the United States Navy, continuing as an educator for more than 50 years, and giving his time and leadership to multiple local, state, and national organizations.
“It is hard to imagine KDP without Bill’s sustained interest and support. His regular calls with fresh ideas served to both inspire and impress me as he modeled what it means to be a lifelong educator and member of the KDP community.”
Faye Snodgress, KDP Executive Director
“How wonderful that Bill Martin passed our way! He freshened our soul. He led us to dream instead of simply existing. He called us to give what we could, not to sit and talk about giving what we didn’t have.”
Dr. O.L. Davis, Jr., Former KDP President
Many KDP members and staff have enjoyed Bill and his wife Helen throughout the years. Helen has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dr. William B. Martin Scholarship Fund at Kappa Delta Pi, 3707 Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
We will miss you Bill
