#GivingTuesday: Peace Corps Pen Pals

Help KDP fund a Classroom Teacher Grant for “Peace Corps Pen Pals”, a Classroom Project by Karen Krzystof-Bansley. She teaches 6th grade and has 17 years of teaching experience.

Application for Funding:

I will encourage my students to be global citizens through having a Peace Corps pen pal. Amber Wong is currently stationed in the Philippines. My class had a pen pal relationship with her last year. She is in contact with us through mail and email. We also keep updated about her work through following her blog. Using the United Nations sustainable goals, the students will learn about the needs of the community in the Philippines and try to come up with an action plan to help solve one of the issues they face.

How the $150 would be spent:

$40 would be spent on postage throughout the school year to send packages to Amber in the Philippines. $30 of the grant would be spent on small gifts to Amber to distribute in the schools there that would be based on need. Finally, $80 would be spent to support a project that will help the community in which Amber lives. She has said that the following are areas of concern: clean water and sanitation, responsible consumption and production, climate actions, and life below water. I would like to brainstorm with my students how we could help the community.
