Help KDP fund a Classroom Teacher Grant for “Professional Interview Clothing”, a Student Outreach Support project by Kimberly Clayton. She teaches sophomore through senior high school students and has 7 years of teaching experience.
Application for Funding:
I work at a Simon Youth Academy location in Katy, Texas. We are a brand new campus this year and have only been open for several weeks. Our campus specializes in dropout recovery and encouraging students to return to school to finish their high school diplomas.
We currently serve approximately 25 students, almost all of whom are low income and at risk students due to a variety of factors such as pregnancy, homelessness, and difficult family situations. We anticipate that our campus will grow within 1 year to serve our capacity of 150 students.
One of my main focuses as a Career and Technology instructor is to educate students in skills necessary for employment and to assist students in locating part time employment. Most of my students do not have access to professional outfits to wear to job interviews.
My mission is to create a clothes bank of clothing pieces for both boys and girls suitable for job interviews that can be borrowed as needed. Currently, employees have been bringing in clothing from their own closets to satisfy this need but the greatest need is for professional maternity clothing as none of our staff members have any of this type of clothing. We have sent one pregnant student on a job interview in clothing that was tight and uncomfortable.
It is my hope that we will be able to supplement our clothing bank with some basic maternity pieces. I am seeking a $150 grant in order to be able to provide a professional maternity outfit for our pregnant students to wear to job interviews. Thank you for your consideration.
How the $150 would be spent:
The $150 grant will be used to purchase professional dress items that can be lent out to students to wear for job interviews. The greatest need on our campus is currently maternity items. I can purchase a pair of dress pants, a skirt, a blouse, and a dress through motherhood.com for approximately $150.
