Election Results in the Classroom

With the last votes being counted, we suddenly have an incredible amount of information at our disposal. PBS offers a detailed review of voting down to the Congressional District. If you’re into social media, Facebook and Twitter let us look at self-reported voting information from around the country. The election offers real-world relationships with math, geography, sociology, and of course government. What patterns can your students find from the information? You can review Obama’s victory speech and Romney’s concession speech to discuss the different perspectives of the election and the country. Does this election support claims that the Republican party is out of touch, or is it evidence that America is closely and seriously divided?
